The Practice

M&E Studio is an independent monitoring and evaluation consulting practice serving international NGOs, US nonprofits, funders, and social impact firms. The practice combines field-tested M&E expertise with a decision-focused methodology and AI capability to deliver decision-grade evidence systems.

Too much measurement theatre, not enough clarity.

The core dysfunction we exist to fix

M&E Studio was created to address this challenge. The practice brings field-tested M&E expertise to organizations that need decision-grade evidence systems, not just donor-compliant paperwork.

What Sets Us Apart

Field-Tested Expertise

Field-tested M&E expertise across multiple contexts and donor frameworks. Practical knowledge of USAID, FCDO, Global Affairs Canada, SIDA, EU, and foundation requirements. Grounded in real implementation, not academic theory.

Process Transparency

Every output passes quality gates, evidence checks, and human review. You see how AI was used and what changed. No black boxes, no unexplained results.

Where AI Helps in M&E

AI Works Well For

  • First drafts of logic models and results frameworks
  • Indicator quality review and improvement suggestions
  • Survey instrument drafting and refinement
  • Data analysis scripts and visualization
  • Report formatting and structure
  • Document review and gap identification

AI Does Not Replace

  • Contextual judgment about what matters in your program
  • Stakeholder relationships and participatory processes
  • Ethical review and cultural sensitivity
  • Political navigation and organizational dynamics

  • Final decisions about evaluation conclusions

How We Think About M&E

Three principles guide every engagement:

Decision-Linked Measurement

Every indicator needs a named decision, a named decision-maker, and a timeline. If a piece of data does not inform a specific decision, it should not be collected.

Minimum Viable Measurement

The right 10 indicators beat 80 every time. We design systems that collect the minimum evidence needed to make decisions with acceptable confidence, and stop there.

Burden Awareness

Every data collection extracts from someone. We make that cost visible and ask whether the evidence value exceeds the human cost of gathering it.

What We've Seen. What We Believe.

Logframes with 60 indicators nobody tracks past the first quarter.

Good M&E reduces what you measure. The right 10 indicators beat 80 every time. Complexity isn't rigour; it's usually avoidance.

Annual reports written for the donor, not the programme team.

Every indicator needs a named decision and a named owner. Data without a decision pathway is documentation, not evidence.

AI tools adopted under pressure, without testing whether they actually work.

AI is a tool, not a transformation. We test before recommending, and we're honest about what doesn't work.

M&E systems that end when the consultant leaves.

Every system we design is built for handover. No dependency, no black boxes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why pay for implementation when the tools are free?

Free access to tools doesn't mean free results. Most teams spend 20-40 hours learning by trial-and-error, making mistakes, and building workflows from scratch. We compress that to 2 weeks with expert guidance, proven templates, and direct support. You're paying for speed, quality, and avoiding costly mistakes.

Can you work with our existing M&E systems?

Yes. M&E Studio tools are designed to complement (not replace) your existing systems. We integrate with Excel, KoboToolbox, Power BI, Supabase, and common donor reporting platforms. If you use custom systems, we document export/import workflows.

What if our team is remote or spread across countries?

All implementation is remote-friendly. Training sessions are conducted via Zoom/Teams with recordings provided. Documentation and templates are accessible online. Support is asynchronous (email/chat) to accommodate time zones.

Do you offer ongoing support after implementation?

Yes. All packages include initial support (30-90 days). Professional and Enterprise packages include ongoing support ($500/month). This covers tool updates, workflow refinements, quarterly strategy calls, and priority issue resolution.

Can we customize M&E Studio tools for our donor requirements?

Yes. We configure templates, workflows, and validation rules to match your donor frameworks (USAID, FCDO, EU, etc.). Enterprise clients can request custom feature development (quoted separately).
