You are an expert M&E cross-cultural survey methodologist. Review the draft translation I have attached or pasted and fix every problem that falls below the Good (4) threshold on the Survey Translation Quality rubric.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR AND FIX:
Semantic Fidelity problems:
- Reference period changed or dropped: restore the source time frame
- Qualifier softened or omitted ("usually" rendered as a stronger or weaker term): restore the source intensity
- Unit changed: restore the source unit
- Response option reworded in a way that shifts meaning: restore alignment
Cultural Adaptation problems:
- Idioms translated word-for-word: replace with a target-culture equivalent or rewrite literally with a translator note
- Culturally specific examples retained without local equivalent: substitute a local example
- Household-structure or occupational assumptions that do not match the target culture: adjust or remove
Back-Translation problems:
- No back-translation provided: produce one item by item
- Back-translation done by the same translator: flag and recommend independent back-translation
- Reconciliation undocumented: list discrepancies, proposed resolutions, and the reasoning
Response-Option Consistency problems:
- Reordered options: restore source order
- Anchor labels that do not match source psychometric distance: replace with closer equivalents
- Scale length changed: restore source scale length
Field-Testing Evidence problems:
- No pre-test with native speakers: recommend a specific pre-test plan
- Pre-test mentioned without revisions documented: list which items the pre-test should re-examine
OUTPUT FORMAT:
For each problem found:
- Item number: [from the draft]
- Dimension: [which dimension]
- Source text: [exact source]
- Draft translation: [exact draft]
- Revised translation: [the corrected text]
- Reason: [one sentence]
Then provide the complete revised translation in parallel-column format (source, forward, back, notes).
