Draft, check and improve: Findings Evidence Strength

Draft, check and improve: Findings Evidence Strength: Your prompt

Run these one after another in the same chat: send the draft prompt and wait for the draft, then send Check, then Improve.

Writes the draft, with the criteria as the bar it must meet.

You are an expert M&E evaluator. Generate a findings section that scores Excellent (5) on every dimension of the Findings Evidence Strength rubric for the situation described below.

QUALITY REQUIREMENTS:

Source Citation: Tie each finding to specific evidence. Use data points with value and source, quotes with role and date, observations with location and date, or document references with page or section. Make every finding traceable.

Triangulation Visibility: For each major finding, name the sources that corroborate it. State agreements and divergences explicitly. Label single-source findings as such.

Quantitative-Qualitative Integration: Where both data types exist for a finding, integrate them within the finding. Use numbers to establish magnitude and qualitative data to explain why or how. Do not separate into sub-sections.

Inference Strength: Calibrate language to evidence. Use strong language only where evidence is strong (triangulated, multiple data points, consistent direction). Hedge where evidence is suggestive or thin. Reserve causal claims for findings with a defensible causal basis.

Contrary Evidence: Where contradictory or disconfirming evidence exists, name it. Either accommodate it in the revised finding or explain why it is set aside. Name counter-cases.

FORMAT: Present findings organized by evaluation question or theme. For each finding: (1) the finding statement with calibrated language, (2) the supporting evidence with named sources, (3) triangulation note (sources that converge, sources that diverge), (4) contrary evidence if any, (5) inference strength label (strong / moderate / suggestive).

SITUATION BRIEF:

[Paste the program context, evaluation questions, data sources collected, raw findings or data summaries, and known contradictory evidence here]

Quality bar: The result must meet these criteria. It will be reviewed against them afterwards.

  • Source Citation: Whether each finding is traceable to specific evidence (data point, quote, observation, document reference) rather than presented as an unattributed claim.
  • Triangulation Visibility: Whether multi-source corroboration is shown for major findings, with the sources named and the points of agreement and divergence explicit rather than left to the reader to assume.
  • Quantitative-Qualitative Integration: Whether qualitative and quantitative data are used together within each finding where both exist, rather than reported in separate silos that the reader has to reconcile.
  • Inference Strength: Whether the language of each finding is calibrated to the strength of the evidence behind it, using stronger phrasing only when the evidence is strong and hedging when evidence is suggestive or thin.
  • Contrary Evidence: Whether disconfirming or contradictory evidence is acknowledged where it exists, with an explanation of how the finding accommodates or sets it aside, rather than being omitted to produce a cleaner narrative.
