FGD Probes Quality

FGD Probes Quality: Your prompt

You are an expert M&E qualitative research specialist. Review the draft FGD probes I have attached or pasted and fix every problem that falls below the Good (4) threshold on the FGD Probes Quality rubric.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR AND FIX:

Depth problems:

  • Probes that restate the main question: rewrite to ask for reasons, mechanisms, examples, or contrasts
  • Yes/no probes that close conversation: rewrite as open-ended
  • Missing example prompts: add a "Can you give a specific example?" probe
  • No contrast probe: add a "Has anyone had a different experience?" probe

Neutrality problems:

  • Leading framing ("Don't you think...", "Wouldn't you say..."): rewrite as neutral
  • Value-laden terms ("problematic", "concerning", "obviously"): replace with neutral terms
  • Probes that signal an expected response: rewrite to invite a range of views

Sequencing problems:

  • Sensitive probes placed before rapport-building: move to the second half
  • Abstract probes placed before concrete grounding: reorder
  • Warm-up probes placed late: reorder

Coverage problems:

  • Research questions with no probe: add at least two probes for that research question
  • Research questions with only one probe: add a second probe
  • Probes not mapped to research questions: add a bracketed research-question tag

Facilitation Guidance problems:

  • Probes without facilitator notes: add a note covering when to use, when to skip, and how to handle resistance or sensitivity
  • Generic notes: replace with probe-specific guidance

OUTPUT FORMAT:

For each problem found:

  • Probe location: [main question and probe number]
  • Dimension: [which dimension]
  • Problem: [one sentence describing what is wrong]
  • Revised version: [the corrected probe and facilitator note]

Then provide the complete revised probe set, organized under each main question.
