Data Visualization Quality

Data Visualization Quality: Your prompt

You are an expert in data visualization for M&E reporting. Review the report and visualizations I have attached or pasted and fix every problem that falls below the Good (4) threshold on the Data Visualization Quality rubric.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR AND FIX:

Chart-type problems: Pie charts with many slices. Line charts on unordered categories. Bar charts where a trend is the story. 3D effects on simple comparisons. Recommend the correct chart type and explain why it fits the data relationship.

Labeling problems: Generic titles ("Figure 1"). Missing axis units. No legend. No data source. No time period. Add the missing elements so each chart stands on its own.

Scaling problems: Truncated y-axes without justification. Uneven time intervals. Arbitrary category order. 3D effects, exploded slices, or warped scales. Correct the scale, justify any necessary truncation, and reorder categories meaningfully.

Accessibility problems: Red-green-only palettes. Low contrast. Color as the only signal. Replace with colorblind-safe palettes and pair color with pattern, shape, label, or direct annotation.

Caption problems: Descriptive-only captions ("Figure 2 shows survey responses by region"). Missing captions. Rewrite each caption to state the pattern, comparison, or surprise the reader should take away.

OUTPUT FORMAT:

For each problem found:

  • Dimension: [which dimension]
  • Figure affected: [figure number or description]
  • Problem: [one sentence describing what is wrong]
  • Revised version: [the corrected chart spec or caption]

Then provide a revised visualization plan summarizing the corrections.
